jawns.club is semi-open, meaning that you do need an invitation to join but any member can invite people, and anybody can contact the mods to request an invite, and there is no formal application process. Please help us make this instance inviting and inclusive.
If you live in the Greater Philadelphia Area, or are "Philadelphia identifying" (aka someone who loves this city, previously lived here and wants to stay plugged into the community, or is thinking about moving to Philly and wants to meet people before you arrive), you're welcome here!
Since this is a semi-open instance, we have some guidelines and recommendations for joining the community outlined below. Please keep in mind that these guidelines are designed to encourage positive and supportive interactions within jawns.club, not to police behavior.
Community members are encouraged to share and recommend these best practices to their fellow community members, especially when someone joins on your invite.
🗣Introduce yourself!
Once you've had some time to get the lay of the land, it's a great idea to write a quick #introduction (and include that hashtag so others can find it). Bonus points for sharing something about Philly in your intro, like a fav place/thing to do/etc.
❤️ Before you promote, participate!
It's super cool to share the stuff you're working on, invite people to events, ask for help, share work opportunities/gigs, etc. But please try not to make these your first or only posts! Join in the conversation, say hello, make an introduction above, even share *other* people's stuff. All of these things will help you build connections and earn trust. Besides, people are way more likely to pay attention to (and boost/click/share) the stuff you share if they recognize you!
In general, promoting stuff is good. It's how we learn what's going on, and help each other. If you're active in the community and sharing something you think others might like, you don't have to worry. Drive-by promotion doesn't help the community, so please try to avoid it.
🚨Please consider using "content warnings."
We ask that you put the following topics behind a content warning (CW) (photos must be marked with the eye symbol - after uploading, before posting):
When in doubt, CW. Our goal is to create a space where we are not overwhelmed by negative posts or bombarded by the 24 hour news cycle.

Code of conduct heavily inspired by/borrowed from the talented mods at kitty.town. Thanks gang!
